High School Biology Textbooks: A Benchmarks-Based Evaluation

Welcome to AAAS Project 2061’s evaluation of high school biology textbooks. This evaluation reports on nine high school biology textbooks published between 1997 and 2000 that were analyzed for how completely their content aligns with specific key ideas in four topics (Cell Structure and Function, Matter and Energy Transformations, Molecular Basis of Heredity, and Natural Selection and Evolution) and how well the instructional strategies in the materials support students’ learning of these ideas.
