CCMS Knowledge Sharing Institute
2003 Knowledge Sharing Institute
The Center’s first Knowledge Sharing Institute event took place in June 2003 at the University of Michigan. Participants included the Center’s leadership and faculty, its first cohort of postdoctoral fellows and doctoral students, and several invited speakers. Among the topics covered was the Center’s research agenda and how to define it. Presentations and discussions focused on the following questions:
-
How can the design of materials be informed by what is currently known about how students learn science?
-
How can assessments be designed to monitor student progress and inform the design of curriculum materials?
-
How can curriculum materials serve the needs of all students regardless of cultural backgrounds and prior experiences?
-
How can materials and professional development support teacher learning and effective use of materials?
