TRANSPARENCY: Project 2061’s Vision of Reform.

Presenter: Project 2061 recommends a coherent set of K-12 learning goals that it believes when implemented will promote science literacy in all Americans. The Project recognizes that implementation of the recommended goals will require changes in many, perhaps all, components of the education system. To get some sense of the anticipated results of the Project 2061 effort, we will look at how the Project defines itself.

Refer to the transparency and identify the four categories of defining statements:

Common core of instruction

Diverse learning experiences

Teacher responsibility for curriculum

Supportive learning environment

HANDOUT: Project 2061’s Vision of Reform.

Presenter: In your small groups, please review the statements in each category to identify those statements that were addressed by (1) the curriculum materials [or instruction or assessment] analyzed in the workshop; and (2) the activities that you were engaged in throughout the workshop.

Allow 10 minutes for group discussion.

Collect responses from the groups. Make use of the four transparencies as you review the four categories.
