Based on previous research documents, including the National Academies&#8217; &#8220;<a href="http://www.nap.edu/openbook.php?record_id=4962">National Science Education Standards</a>&#8220; and AAAS&#8217;s own &#8220;<a href="publications/bsl/default.htm">Benchmarks for Science Literacy</a>&#8221; and the &#8220;<a href="publications/atlas/default.htm">Atlas of Science Literacy</a>,&#8221; the Framework re-focuses attention on the importance of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in order to promote well-informed citizens, U.S. competitiveness, and a productive workforce.</p>]]></description>
