Using Atlas of Science Literacy
Workshop Scholarship Program Q&As:
-
Who is eligible to apply for these
scholarships?
Any educator at any level may apply. We encourage a wide
variety of professionals involved in science and mathematics education
to attend these workshops. Participants may include K-12 classroom
teachers, curriculum specialists, supervisors, administrators, graduate
students, researchers, education policymakers, and college faculty
and other professionals from post-secondary institutions.
-
What does the scholarship cover?
A workshop scholarship will cover only the registration
fee (up to $450) for each individual recipient. The costs of
required books, travel, and lodging are not included. Scholarship
awardees will be responsible for covering these additional items.
-
How will scholarships be awarded?
Awardees will be selected based on their level of interest
in science and/or mathematics at the local, state, national, or
international levels; their need for financial support; and their
potential for sharing with others the knowledge gained at the workshop
as based on the information each applicant provides on his or her
application. The decisions will be made by a selection committee
comprised of AAAS professional staff.
-
When will I receive my funds?
Scholarships will be provided in the form of complimentary
workshop registrations (no checks or refunds will be mailed). All
participants will fill out the registration form and confirmed scholarship
recipients can simply mark “comp” on the registration
line. They will still, however, need to fill out the lines for the
required books and submit payment for those materials.
-
How many scholarships will be given out?
A limited number of scholarships, in the form of complimentary
workshop registrations, will be provided for each the upcoming workshops
until funds are exhausted. The precise number of scholarships will
depend on the number of applications submitted and selected for
each workshop.
-
How will scholarship winners be notified?
Scholarship recipients will be notified via telephone,
e-mail, or regular US mail of their selection with sufficient time
to make travel arrangements. All scholarship recipients will receive
written confirmation of their selection.
-
Could I use my funds for another AAAS program?
No. These scholarships are solely designated for the Using “Atlas
of Science Literacy” workshops, and will be applied as individual
complimentary registrations. They will not shared (such as to reduce
the cost of team registrations for non-scholarship awardees) nor
will they be applied toward any other AAAS charges, such as membership
fees for AAAS members or registrations to the annual meeting.
- Who is funding this program?
The Project 2061 workshop scholarships are supported by
gifts from members and others to the AAAS
Fund for Excellence program. The overall Using “Atlas of
Science Literacy” workshop program is funded directly from
participant registration fees.

Scholarship Program page.
