Criteria for awarding scholarships

Level of Engagement. Consideration will be given to applicants who demonstrate a high level of interest and/or involvement in science and/or mathematics education at the local, state, national or international levels. Applicants will be required to submit some documentation of this interest in their application (see questions 7 and 8).

Need. Consideration will be given to applicants who demonstrate a need for financial support, taking into account the possibility of support from other sources. Consideration will also be given to the needs of postdoctoral students and students. This consideration will be based on the statements and information provided by individuals on their applications.

Equity and Geographical Distribution. Consideration will be given to applicants who represent diversity in the education system, particularly with respect to groups who have been under-represented in science and technology. Other considerations include ensuring a diverse mix of participants from different levels of science education and from all areas of the United States.

Potential for Sharing. Consideration will be given to applicants who offer specific plans for sharing the knowledge gained through their workshop experience with others.
