Jean Flanagan is a research assistant contributing to AAAS Project 2061’s development of assessment resources aligned to grades 6–12 life science learning goals.
Flanagan came to Project 2061 from Gettysburg College, where she earned her B.S. in biology. There she held the positions of teaching assistant, laboratory assistant, and peer learning associate. In her junior year she studied abroad at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences and the Duke University Marine Lab, including a brief stay in Matura, Trinidad & Tobago tagging leatherback sea turtles. Her previous research includes a project at Western Washington University funded by NSF’s Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program, which investigated a possible link between increased nutrients at clam-digging sites and harmful macro-algal blooms in the Puget Sound area.
